What is somatic healing?
Somatic healing through transforming touch is an attachment focused, neurophysiological method of hands-on healing for regulating the Physical, Emotional, Intellectual and Spiritual self. It is most often practiced to support healing from trauma, stress, burnout and other chronic conditions. It connects the mind and body to heal together, guiding the body’s natural ability to process and release memories related to trauma. In other words, somatic healing helps to calm and regulate the nervous system, lowering the body’s stress response and creating more capacity to respond to the experiences and stressors of every day life.
With expertise in early developmental trauma, my practice supports the release of any trauma, big or small, experienced from before birth through to adulthood. There are memories stored in the body that the mind may not be consciously aware of, which can be carried with throughout life.
The body is incredibly intelligent and can learn how to adapt, transitioning between survival mode and rest and digest from the stressors of daily life or significant traumatic events. Trauma is perceived by the mind and body differently for each individual, with the effects depending on one’s experience with the event. Over time, the need for the body to continue to adapt could increase the load that’s carried so greatly there is no longer capacity to adapt and move through. This can lead to feeling physically or mentally unwell, where it is often difficult to identify the source of the symptoms. Somatic healing is incredibly supportive on its own or as a complement to other therapies or medical protocols. When practiced consistently, somatic healing can lead to transformational change after neural pathways are rewired over time.
